Questions & Answers

Frequently Asked Questions

Everything parents and young explorers need to know before heading into Yellowstone National Park.

What age is Yellowstone Wildlife Scouts designed for?

The app is designed for children ages 5 and up, though kids of all ages enjoy the wildlife tracking challenge. Younger children can participate with a parent, while older kids and tweens often enjoy competing for the highest score and rarest sightings on their own.

Do we need cell service or Wi-Fi in the park?

No internet connection is required at any point. Yellowstone Wildlife Scouts works entirely offline — all 31 species, the illustrated park map, animal facts, and the badge system are fully loaded on your device before you leave home. This makes it perfect for areas of the park with no cell coverage.

Can multiple children share one device?

Yes. The app supports multiple independent scout profiles on a single device. Each child can create their own scout with a unique name, avatar, and color theme. Their sightings, scores, and earned badges are tracked separately so siblings can each have their own personal adventure.

What animals can kids track in the app?

The app includes 31 authentic Yellowstone wildlife species across mammals and birds. Common species like American bison, elk, and bald eagle are worth 10 points each. Rare animals like the gray wolf, grizzly bear, and wolverine are worth 50 points and are much harder to spot — adding real excitement to every park visit.

Is this app available on Android?

Yellowstone Wildlife Scouts is currently available on iPhone and iPad through the App Store. An Android version for Google Play is in development and coming soon. Follow us for updates on the Android release.

Does the app teach kids about the animals?

Every species in the app includes kid-friendly facts about their behavior, habitat, diet, and what makes them unique in Yellowstone's ecosystem. Logging a rare sighting unlocks a detailed animal card, turning each discovery into a mini wildlife lesson that kids actually want to read.
